The Swipe Logic wiki

A plain-language walkthrough of what the app does, how each part works, and what's changed lately — for anyone using it, not just whoever built it.

Overview

What Swipe Logic actually does

It answers one question: which of my own credit cards should I use for this? You type what you're buying, and it tells you — in a sentence, not just a percentage — which card in your wallet earns you the most.

It only knows about the cards you tell it you carry. There's no sign-up, no ad network, and nothing about what you shop for is sent anywhere — the whole thing runs in your browser, and it works just as well installed on your phone as a small app icon.

How it works

Three steps, every time

  1. Add the cards you carry. A one-time setup — tap the gear icon and pick from the list. Nothing else is assumed about you.
  2. Type what you're buying. A store name, a brand, or a category all work — "Whole Foods," "Delta flight," "gas station."
  3. Read the answer. One card is named as the best choice, with the full ranked list underneath it in case you want to see why.
you type: "uber eats"
Use your Amex Gold — 4x on restaurants worldwide.
Stacks with its $10 a month Uber Cash credit.

Your wallet

Over 100 cards to choose from

The card list covers the major banks, plus a growing set of specialty and co-branded cards added by request — Citizens Bank and Nordstrom among the most recent, alongside more from Barclays.

Your list is stored only on your own device. Updating the app never clears it — even a card that's temporarily removed from the catalog stays in your wallet and quietly comes back if it's ever re-added.

Statement credits

Beyond the points — the credits you'd otherwise forget

Some cards don't just pay a rate — they also hand back real, recurring money. A $10 monthly Uber credit, a $300 yearly travel credit, a twice-a-year dining credit. Swipe Logic tracks those too, and factors them into the answer.

Tap Mark used on a credit once you've spent it, and the app stops suggesting it. A Credits panel in Settings shows everything left to use this period — and every credit resets itself automatically on its own schedule, whether that's monthly, twice a year, or once a year. Nothing to remember, nothing to reset by hand.

you type: "dunkin" — no card has a bonus category for it
Capital One Venture X is the best of the flat rates at 2x.
Your Amex Gold still has $7 of its Dunkin' credit unused — on a small purchase, that beats the rate difference.

The amount field

Tell it how much, and the math changes

A $10 credit can beat a better points rate on a small purchase — and lose badly on a large one. Type an amount next to the search box, and the answer stops guessing and starts doing real dollar math.

"dunkin" · $8 purchase
Amex Gold wins
$7.08 back
($7 credit + $0.08 in points)
"dunkin" · $1,000 purchase
Venture X wins
$20.00 back
vs. $17.00 on the Gold

Same search, opposite answer — because the size of the purchase is the whole question. Leave the field blank and it goes back to ranking by rate alone.

Who else is on

The "here now" badge

The small badge in the header shows how many people currently have the app open, live. Hover it for today's total and the running all-time count. It's just a number — the app has no idea who anyone is, and doesn't attach a search, a card list, or anything else to it.

Install & updates

Add it to your home screen — it looks after itself

On your phone, "Add to Home Screen" turns it into a real app icon that opens full-screen and still works with no signal. Once installed, it also updates itself: every time you open it, it quietly checks for anything new and refreshes in the background — no reinstalling, no manual "check for updates."

The small version number at the bottom of the screen exists for exactly one reason: if something ever looks off, that number tells whoever's helping precisely which version you're on.

Your privacy

What stays on your device — and what never leaves it

  • Your card list and your credit-usage history live only on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • What you search for — every merchant, every amount — never reaches a server. The matching happens entirely in your browser.
  • The only thing the server ever sees is an anonymous "someone's here" ping, so the live count works. No accounts, no ads, no third parties.

Changelog

Recent updates

  • v1.6current

A wiki link, now pointing at the wiki itself

A "Wiki" link was added next to the version number at the bottom of the screen. It briefly opened a separate page before landing here — this page now lives at swipe-logic.com/wiki, on the site itself.

  • v1.4

The live counter actually counts now

It had been quietly stuck on a low number no matter how many people had the app open — now fixed, and it updates within seconds. Version numbers also switched to a "v1.4" style instead of a plain "14."

  • v1.3

    The app updates itself

An installed copy now checks for new versions on its own and refreshes quietly — reinstalling is no longer necessary. Tapping an example question also stopped popping the keyboard up over the answer.

  • v1.2

A version number, and a safety net

Added the version stamp at the bottom of the screen, plus a behind-the-scenes check that stops a broken update from ever being published.

  • Launch

    The relaunch

New look, dozens of new cards (Citizens Bank, Nordstrom, and more from Barclays among them), the first version of statement-credit tracking, the option to type a dollar amount, and a real address at swipe-logic.com.

Roadmap

What's next

  • Pending

A bigger card catalog, automatically. Waiting to hear back on API access that would let new cards get added on their own instead of by hand.

  • Planned

A Discord for updates and feedback. A place to hear what changed and suggest what's next, once it's set up.

  • Ongoing

Keeping credit amounts accurate. Issuers change these often, so they're checked and corrected by hand on a regular basis.
